What To Expect At Your First Visit
Trying a new massage therapist can be daunting.
Will they be any good?
Will you find the place easily?
Should you shave?
Keep your britches on?
Our goal is to make your first visit comfortable, clear, and pressure-free so you can just focus on enjoying your stay with us.
Once you book, you’ll receive:
Confirmation email with appointment info and directions to the studio
Intake form if you didn’t already complete it upon booking. Completing your intake form ahead of time allows us to focus your session on what matters most. We will unapologetically sacrifice massage time to collect that information from you if you do not provide it ahead of time. It’s a liability thing, and we take it pretty seriously.
Reminder emails and texts 72 hours ahead of your appointment. If you need to cancel or reschedule, do it then. At 48 hours, the software will lock you out and you will be held accountable to our late cancellation fee. Our providers don’t deserve to take a pay cut because more and more clients have commitment issues with their calendars…
Arrival & Parking:
The Studios at Summit is located inside the Greenwood Executive Park office complex. It’s a quaint, 1980’s office park off Peakview and Quebec. Yes, we really are located here. No, your maps didn’t lie to you and drop you off at someone’s condo. Promise.
Please arrive a few minutes early so you have plenty of time to park and use the restroom. The lobby is large, and there’s complimentary tea and water. We have lots of free, off-street parking in our complex. The address and detailed directions are included in your confirmation email.
Your Consultation:
We want to give you the kind of session that you want to receive. So every session begins with a brief conversation about:
your symptoms
health history & recent injuries or surgeries
goals for the session
bodywork preferences
What Happens During the Session:
Depending on the service, your session may include therapeutic massage, craniosacral therapy, lymphatic drainage techniques, TMJ massage (including intra-oral work when appropriate) or more.
Each session will be personalized to your areas of complaint, goals for the session, and tissue health. But there are a few things that come standard regardless of what you book:
You do not have to take off your underwear if you do not want to. Similarly, you are not expected to bring shorts or athletic wear to any service - but if you would feel more comfortable in shorts than your birthday suit, feel free to bring whatever you want.
We will leave the room while you get undressed and re-dressed.
We are happy to pause the session at any time for restroom needs or water breaks.
YOU are in charge. If you don’t love the session, you are always invited to ask questions, request pivots, and generally advocate for yourself while you’re with us*.
*A note for lymphatic services. Lymphatic drainage uses extremely light pressure. This is the one non-negotiable thing on our service menu. Lymph vessels sit just under the skin, and respond to a different kind of manipulation than muscles do. If you book lymph, you get lymph…not massage.
Comfort & Privacy:
Your comfort and safety is always the priority.
You will be:
properly draped at all times
informed before any new-to-you technique is used
welcome to ask questions at any time
encouraged to give feedback on pressure, temperature, music, lighting, or anything else that’s not quite perfect, at any time
After Your Session:
Hopefully, you get off the table feeling like a million bucks. Clients commonly report reduced tension, improved mobility, noticeable relaxation, decreased swelling, lessened soreness or pain, and more.
Once you’re up and running, the therapist may provide simple recommendations such as hydration, gentle movement, follow-up sessions if needed, outward referrals if relevant.
How Often Should you Come In?
This varies widely depending on your goals. For post-op, we encourage weekly if not more (for at least a few weeks). For maintenance and lifestyle, monthly is an amazing schedule to start with. We’re always happy to help you create a schedule that fits your body and your life.
And p.s. We will literally never care if you shave before your session. You do you, boo.
