When booking with Summit, our online portal requires you to agree with our Office Policies.

We found that people do not read, though: they just agree and move on with the intake.

So we moved our Policies here to streamline your booking experience, while keeping them easily accessible for if / when you want to reference them in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Integrative Bodywork?

A: More or less, Integrative Bodywork simply means "we use a variety of techniques throughout the session, in an effort to best serve the body in front of us." We focus on understanding the situation, and approaching it with the correct tool.

We like to think of it this way: a hammer is a great tool...but only when you need a hammer. When you need a screwdriver? Coming at it with a hammer isn't going to get you the end result you were hoping for. 

Q: What is Cupping? 

A: Cupping involves placing a “cup” on the skin in an area of tension or pain and creating a bit of a vacuum within that cup. The vacuum creates a suctioning effect on the tissue directly beneath the cup, which results in three main actions:
1. The suction pulls nearby fluids into the area, increasing circulation and lymphatic flow.
2. The suction separates layers of tissue that have become stuck together, restoring tissue glide.
3. The suction has a sedative effect on the nervous system: it interrupts pain signals from the problem area to the brain, effectively pressing Pause on pain. This lowers blood pressure, and inflammatory hormones.

Cups can be applied at varying intensities and for varying times to encourage certain results. These results range from alleviating chronic aches & pains to mediating scar tissue,  headaches, stress, anxiety, depression, and even improving immune function.

Q: Will My Appointment Ever Hurt?

A: No!
The number one rule here at Summit is that pain is NEVER necessary to achieve results. We are not here to beat your body into submission. Instead, we are here to negotiate with your tissues and remind them that “tight” is not their native state.

The old mentality of “No Pain, No Gain” has been investigated from many angles: and has been shelved. Pain activates your sympathetic nervous system, aka your “Fight Or Flight” response.  Stress hormones, heart rate and blood pressure, and muscle tone all go up.…which is exactly what we're trying to avoid.

Our goal is to bring you out of your SNS mode and instead encourage “Rest and Digest” (parasympathetic). This lowers stress hormones and encourages Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin (all the happy hormones!) instead. When you’re in parasympathetic mode, your muscles and fascia are ready and waiting to let go of their tension and return to their normal resting state.

Q: Does Summit Offer Deep Tissue? 

A: Sort Of! Our Intuitive Pressure session is designed to be deep where and when Deep is appropriate.

There are two reasons people seek out "Deep Tissue" massage. The first is The Experience, and the second is The Results.

If you're looking for Deep Tissue for the experience -- because you want the sensory input of bone-crushing pressure for a full 60 minutes, and feeling sore for three days afterward -- we are not your people. Pushing hard for the sake of pushing hard does not align with what we do. Everything we do here at Summit is goal-oriented, and appropriate to the tissues (and issues) at our fingertips.

If you're looking for Deep Tissue because you've been told it'll get you Results, we may be just who you are looking for. Sometimes, yes, a stubborn ache or pain can be resolved with firm pressure. But just as often, the tissue isn't in a state to receive something that aggressive, or the issue you're trying to resolve needs a different approach (like lymphatic, stretching, or neuromuscular). Our Intuitive Pressure session is built with these distinctions in mind. It is firm when and where appropriate. 

Q: Does Summit Offer Prenatal? 

A: Yes, we absolutely offer prenatal appointments! We have the belly bolster and everything.

Q: Does Summit Offer Gift Cards? 

A: As of August 1, 2022 - no, we do not offer gift cards. All gift cards puchased before this date will be honored at the dollar amount for which they were purchased. 

Q: I'm Having Trouble Using My Redemption Code. What's Up?

A: If you have a redemption code for any type of discount on any type of service here at Summit -- like an old gift card, a membership credit, or a discount code -- you should be able to redeem it at checkout when booking. But that's a perfect world. In the real world, things can get glitchy...
1. If you are unable to redeem, step one is to ensure that what you are booking is in alignment with what your credit is actually good for. Our software knows which codes will work where (and which ones won't).
2. If everything is correct but it is still uncooperative, book your appointment without the code, tell our system you will pay later (you'll be asked to save a CC to your file: it will not be charged) and, bring the redemption code with you at the time of your service.  We will apply your credits here at the office. No biggie. 

Q: Does Summit Work With Insurance? 

A: No. Summit Therapeutics is a cash-pay massage studio. We do not bill Insurance directly, nor do we provide a superbill with medical codes.
We do accept HSA/FSA cards for payment at time of service, and we are happy to print a transaction receipt for any and all of your appointments. 

Q: What is Summit's Cancellation Policy?

A: No one loves cancellation policies, we get it. We didn't love writing it, we definitely don't love enforcing it, and we expect you don't love having it enforced upon you...but it is necessary, nonetheless.

Our cancellation policy, which we prefer to call our "Friendship Agreement," is summarized as follows.

Appointments cancelled or rescheduled more than 24 hours in advance are in the clear. Appointments that need to be cancelled or rescheduled within 24 hours of their scheduled start time are subject to a late cancellation fee. (50% Cost-Of-Service for a first time occurrence, 100% for further occurrences).

Mostly it boils down to: "We prioritize your appointment: and we hope you also prioritize it. If you can't make it, do the friendly thing and let us know 24+hours in advance so we can fill that time with someone from the wait list."

* We DO enforce this policy. It is not fun to enforce, but we do it. This is part of why we book exclusively online. Our booking integrates to Google and Apple calendars AND sends a reminder email 48hrs in advance of your appointment.

Q: What About Covid-19?

A: Good question. Currently our protocols include but are not limited to the following.

– Masks are required / not required according to local mandates. We follow the rules.
– Clients are expected to reschedule appointments if they’re exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19. Better safe than sorry.

Q: Does Summit Offer In-Home Massage? 

A: Not at this time.

Q: Does Summit Offer Event/Corporate Chair Massage?
